ROLE PURPOSE: The Child Protection Senior Officer is responsible for coordinating and managing DANIDA Hum project which is going to be implemented in Kundoz/Nengarhar Province. And she/he is responsible to establish and maintain a good relation with all stakeholders in targeted province and its districts, overseeing implementation of MHPSS activities and service provision for vulnerable and at-risk children, adolescents and families the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Provide practical technical follow up and monitoring to all training and workshops conducted to ensure the sustainability and impacts of the activities.
  • In coordination with the partner and the MHPSS TA, develop new training modules and manuals on child rights issues, safe identification and referrals, and community work skills.
  • Ensure training for all Save the Children staff on Child Protection and child safeguarding policy, the Code of Conduct is implemented, and that staff complete all mandatory trainings on time.
  • Compile and generate the training reports conducted in provinces.
  • Day to day management of the project with full coordination with SCI country office and Nangarhar/Kunduz office
  • Regular coordination with the training partner to ensure high quality of learning and skill building for psychosocial counsellors, and to support mentoring and on-the-job training throughout the duration of the training program.
  • Regular coordination across SC programs and thematic areas, ensuring high level of integration and collaboration when need and where possible.
  • Support the development of partnerships between adults and children, enabling girls and boys participation in governance structures (e.g. shura, CPAN, and Save the children program and policy developments).
  • Assist in translation of key training material which currently in English into Pashtu/Dari (e.g. child rights, social work coaching and )
  • Work closely with the Save the Children program teams, including other sectors, to adapt or develop applicable materials on child rights, child protection, participation, health education, environmental protection, psychosocial (MHPSS) etc. that are suitable for the local context and culture.
  • Document, evaluate and share experiences and lessons learnt for purposes of institutional learning
  • Work closely with the Save the children program teams to inform policy developments on child rights, protection and participation.
  • Ensuring high quality service are provided through CFS, schools in targeted communities
  • Working with project team to provide PSS to the effected children/population.
  • Provide consistent supervision and technical support for case management and facilitation of group sessions.
  • Any other relevant task assigned by line manager and technical team

 

Partnership

 

  • Ensure personal commitment in building constructive working relationship with partners based on SCI partnership principles spelled out in Theory of Change
  • Coordinate with partners on issues of accountability (reporting) as per SCI and back donors’ requirement
  • Ensure any new requirement of SCI is shared with partners in coordination with partnership unit

 

MEAL

 

  • Ensure that all projects are equipped with MEAL systems like quality benchmarks, billboards, posters to exhibit MEAL messages for activities 
  • Ensure action plans from quality monitoring and accountability systems are generated and implemented in timely manner collaboration with MEAL team
  • Report project outputs against M&E Plan 
  • Ensure that data and information is available for projects at the field as per the M&E Plan

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A relevant degree in education, psychology, social sciences or a closely related field;

 

  • EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Essential
  • More than 3 years experience in work focusing on children’s rights and protection issues.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Good working knowledge (spoken and written) of English and  Pashtu/Dari  Language.
  • Skills in report writing.
  • Experience in conducting training
  • Ability to manage a project
  • A relevant degree in education, psychology, social sciences or a closely related field;
  • Extensive experience as a trainer using participatory methodology.
  • Experience in undertaking training needs assessment
  • Experience in developing training materials
  • Knowledge of child rights, child protection and child participation and case management or counselling
  • Proven competence in using participatory/interactive methods in working with children in difficult circumstances;
  • Politically and culturally sensitive, awareness of gender issues, with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a  team;
  • A willingness to work as part of a team in a complex and sometimes insecure environment.
  • A preparedness to work in uncertain security environments.
  • Computer literate (word processing, spreadsheets, email).
  • Commitment to the vision, mission and goals of SC.
  • Commitment to SC Child Protection Policy
  • Experience in working with an International organization for at least 2 years;
  • Good sense of humour and flexibility

Desirable

  • Experience of translating materials from English to Pashtu and Dari
  • Experience in MHPSS, child participation and community participation
  • Familiar with other computer program (Ms. Access, Photoshop etc)
